I have gotten a lot of questions about the tools I regularly use for Bible study, prayer, and my marriage. So, I decided to round them up in a post for easy access.

I’ve linked each of the tools I use and explained how they work in my own life. I pray they bless your walk and you find them as useful as I do!

Bible Study Tools

ESV Journaling Bible

This is the Bible I use regularly. I particularly like the ESV translation because it resembles the original language closely without being too difficult to understand.

The journaling Bible has lined columns on the edges for me to jot down thoughts about the text, lessons God is teaching me, little notes about words or context, and anything else I want to write down!

There is also space if you are someone who likes to draw or doodle in the margins.

NIV Life Application Study Bible

Along with my journaling Bible, I read a study Bible. The Life Application Study Bible is my favorite. There are multiple translations of these study Bibles. They come equipped with study notes about context, language, history, and modern application.

I chose another translation because the NIV is easier for me to read than the ESV, but reading both helps me to dig into scripture more deeply and see other words or grammar usages.

I highly recommend reading the Bible in multiple translations as you study and not to lean on just one too strongly.

Give Me Jesus Quiet Time Journal

This is the journal I use when I get the opportunity to study deeply.

I work full time and mornings are rough, so I use the First 5 App during the week and spend weekend mornings in deeper study. I don’t use this journal every day because my weekday morning study looks different than my weekend study.

It is set up for 90 days and includes space to journal prayers, write out gratitude and write through your Bible reading for that day.

It is beautiful and helps me stay focused as I study the Bible.

Daily Grace Linen Memory Verse Journal

I use this journal exactly how it sounds. I use it to write down the verses I want to memorize. The pages are lined with designed headings and are spiral bound to keep your verses all in one place.

It has a beautiful, high-quality linen cover and it is small enough for me to throw in my purse or bookbag to keep Scripture with me all the time.

I used to just use a spiral-bound set of index cards but this journal is much more heavy-duty & it’s prettier.

Daily Grace, Co. Gel Bible Highlighters

I love highlighting in my Bible. These highlighters are beautiful colors and don’t bleed through on thin Bible pages.

I use these to highlight verses that are meaningful to me or verses that I’m making notes about in the margins.

Sharpie Pens

These are the pens I use to write in my Bible. They are thin ink and good quality without bleeding through the pages too much.

I wanted pens that were not gel-ink because those tend to bleed as I’m writing and highlighting. These allow me to squeeze as much in those journaling margins as I can without making mess or being unreadable.

Prayer Tools

ValMarie Paper Yearly Prayer Journal

This prayer journal is probably my favorite tool. I never used to be very good at regularly praying and I forgot what to pray for. Even if I wrote it down, I’d forget where I put the paper or forfet to look.

This journal outlines specific categories and prompts for each month.

There is a section for the world, your community, your closest loves (kids, husband, etc.), your family, your friends, the unsaved in your life, your own requests and goals as well as blank lined sections that you can customize. I use my blank sections for the small groups I lead.

There is also a blank lined section for you to physically write out your prayers. I love doing this because it keeps my heart and my mind focused on prayer.

It is high quality and beautifully designed. This yearly journal has changed my prayer life and I know it will change yours.

Prayer Cards

The Daily Grace, Co. has multiple sets of these pre-written prayer cards that cover a range of topics including anxiety, marriage, your kids, pregnancy, body image, and fear.

Sometimes we just don’t have the words to pray and these cards help me when I am struggling. They remind me of things I wouldn’t think to pray on my own.

31 Prayers for My Husband by Jennifer Smith

This book was one of the first prayer books I read after I got married. I was terrible at praying for my husband because I really didn’t know how. This book helped me to cultivate praying for my husband as a daily habit and gave me the words to speak when I was still learning.

I equate this book to training wheels for wives who want to learn how to pray for their spouses.

The Power of a Praying Wife by Stormie Omartin

This is the second book that I read on prayer. I love this book because it not only gives you the words to pray but illustrates the areas she is calling you to pray for with Scripture and personal stories.

Each chapter in this book is a specific area of your husband’s life to pray for from temptations to his work to money and your marriage.

This book helped me take the training wheels off and learn to pray regular, rich prayers for my husband. She also has other versions for kids and womanhood.

Fervent by Priscilla Shrier

We are all fighting an incredibly cunning enemy that knows how to target our weaknesses and how to make us believe his lies. Priscilla Shirer walks us through how to fight back just as specifically as we are attacked through the power of prayer.

She begins with an overview of prayer itself and then covers the 9 areas she believes we need to be victoriously covering in prayer. If you want to learn to pray ferociously, with confidence and enthusiasm, this book is for you.

This book is incredibly practical and well worth any woman’s time and money. If you want to grow in your prayer life and become a prayer warrior for God’s kingdom, this is your book.

Marriage Tools

Marriage Journal

Audrey and Jeremy Roloff of Beating 50 Percent have created this beautiful marriage journal for couples. It is meant to be used on a weekly basis and includes a devotional, a calendar and 6 questions that you answer together to cultivate communication and connection.

My husband and I love how this journal keeps us connected and on the same page while we are in an incredibly busy season.

You & Me Forever by Francis & Lisa Chan

This book is one of my favorite books on marriage because it focuses on this wonderful relationship in the light of the Gospel message. It is not a how-to book or a book on communication. It truly is a book that seeks to center your focus on Jesus and not on your spouse.

Marriage is not our most important relationship and can easily become an idol. This book helps to put that into perspective and helps you both to stay Christ-centered in your marriage.

Date Night Questions

This tool is actually one that I personally created to help our date nights be as effective as possible. I want my marriage to remain fun and deeply connected so I created a tool to help us do that.

Using date night questions gives you specific topics to discuss and takes the extra brain work out of the date so you can focus on having fun and spending quality time with your spouse.

These questions also bring up topics that may not have come up naturally.

The Enneagram

This link is to a post I wrote about how the Enneagram personality framework improved my marriage. The Enneagram helps you to discover your deepest motivations, fears, and desires so that you can better understand your own heart and behavior.

Knowing more about yourself and your spouse helps you to better communicate, connect and forgive one another better. I highly encourage you to read the post and explore the books and resources linked there.

The 5 Love Languages

The 5 love languages test tells you which of the 5 ways you receive love the best. Knowing how you receive love and knowing how your spouse receives love helps you both to show love to one another better.

My husband and I do not speak the same love language but we didn’t realize how much this affected us until we read the book and took the test.

My love language is Acts of Service and Quality Time while his is Quality Time and Physical Touch. So, we both love spending time together but I want to be getting something done and he wants to be snuggled on the couch.

If we aren’t intentional about speaking the other person’s language, we each can start to feel neglected and unloved, which couldn’t be further from the truth! We love our spouses, but for them to feel it, we have to speak their language

I pray these tools bless your journey, friend! Please share this if you found it helpful to your walk with Christ.
